In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic challenged the Library to adapt to meet our mission to CONNECT community, INSPIRE curiosity, and CULTIVATE learning. While our buildings were closed to the public, the Library continued to provide services in new ways that prioritize the safety of patrons and staff.
Despite unprecedented challenges, Ramsey County Library was named a Star Library for the eighth consecutive year - one of three in Minnesota for 2020! While some services saw a decrease, other services such as website visits and e-book circulation saw increases. In 2020, residents checked out 1.9 million items, including books, audiobooks, electronic books, movies and music, games and more.
2020 also saw an increase in new initiatives such as Grab Bags to make library services and resources equitable. Grab Bags were launched to help families; librarians pulled together fun, new items to be easily picked up at a local library. Since the launch in September 2020, 21,000 items have been checked out.
