Theater - LIVE! And Books!

The Curious Incident posterNot so many years ago, if you wanted to attend an opera at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, you needed to get on a plane and pay exorbitant ticket prices.  Now, thanks to the Live in HD broadcasts, you can drive to your local movie theater and see a beautifully filmed opera in comfortable seats, with great sound and with a better view than even those in the orchestra seats.  There's nothing like live theater and opera, but this is a very close second!

Now theater companies are getting in on the digital broadcast action.  The National Theatre in London will be broadcasting some of their plays, which can be seen locally at Saint Anthony Main Theaters.  More information about the NT Live season can be found at The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul.  The first of these plays to be broadcast here is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, which will be showing on September 20th at 7:00 p.m.  The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, a book club favorite, is based on the novel by Mark Haddon, and is about Christopher, a mathematically-gifted, autistic fifteen-year-old boy who decides to investigate the murder of a neighbor's dog.

The Red HouseBack to books .... fans of The Curious Incident will be interested to know that Mark Haddon has a fairly new novel out: The Red House.  The set-up is simple: a wealthy doctor invites his estranged sister and her family to join him for a vacation. The stage is set for seven days of resentment and guilt, but because of Haddon's extraordinary narrative technique, the stories of these eight people are anything but simple.
