Librarians LOVE answering reference questions. Librarian Judy Woodward compiles the most interesting questions we receive and sends them to the Roseville Review. Got a question for us? Ask A Librarian!
Here's today's question:
Q. I have a library card from Washington County and they do not have the book I need to read for my book club. I did find it on your website in “eBook” form, which I prefer. Do you accept cards from other counties?
A. We do accept other Minnesota library cards in most cases. In order to use our system, you'll need to bring your card into one of our libraries along with a photo ID showing your current address.
We do have some additional considerations when it comes to e-books, however. The Library subscribes to two e-book platforms-- Overdrive and 3M Cloud Library. Our contract with Overdrive does not allow us to lend e-books to non-residents of suburban Ramsey County.
On the other hand, the eight public library systems in the Twin Cities have reached an agreement with 3M Cloud Library that permits us to lend e-books to card holders from any of the eight systems. The only potential problem with 3M Cloud Library is that its files are not currently compatible with some Kindle readers.
You can find out more about both our e-book platforms here: Library Website>Books>E-Books and E-Audiobooks.
