Summer Reading at RCL

Ramsey County Library was “cookin'” this summer as thousands of local children spent many hours reading for the annual Summer Reading Program, “Look What's Cookin' at Your Library.”

On Saturday, June 7, the 2008 Summer Reading Program kicked off with the seventh annual Summer Festival at the library in Maplewood. The festival was a great success, with more than 2,000 patrons coming to participate in the day's activities, including a snack making workshop (click links below for recipes), inflatable birthday cake, edible jewelry and more!

Ramsey County Children's Librarians had a busy summer offering 34 performer programs for children of all ages. A Japanese Culture Fair featured origami, calligraphy, games and kimonos. Storytimes, book clubs and art workshops were also offered throughout the summer. Numbers of participants were strong and we look forward to continuing these programs next summer.


The Friends of Suburban Ramsey County Libraries, Metropolitan Library Service Agency, Culver's Family Restaurant, Minnesota State Fair, Target, Dunn Brothers, Café Cravings, Old Country Buffet, Backdoor Candy Store and Outback Steakhouse all helped make the Summer Reading Program a huge success.

BookFlix: Classic video storybooks and nonfiction eBooks.

The Library has subscribed to a new reading program that you and your child can access from the library or home - anywhere there is an Internet connection!

Scholastic BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. This engaging resource will help early readers develop and practice essential reading skills and introduces students to a world of knowledge and exploration.
