Shoreview:
Sharyn's Top Ten of 2012
Nightwoods by Charles Frazier – A woman in 1960’s North Carolina struggles with the children of her murdered sister. My favorite read of 2012.
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett – A beautiful tale of opera and hostages in a South American embassy.
Chomp by Carl Hiassen – My favorite juvenile book of the year about a reality survival show being shot in the Florida Everglades. Hilarious.
Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout – Olive isn’t very likeable but the stories and characters all felt very real.
In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin by Erik Larson - A fascinating but claustrophobic look at 1930’s Germany.
Iron Lake by William Kent Krueger – The first book in the popular MN mystery series.
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides – A sprawling tale of Greek immigrants, Detroit and a hermaphrodite.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John Le Carre – The movie made a lot more sense after I read the book!
Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier – 19th century female paleontologists.
Sherlock Season Two (DVD) – Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman play a modern day Holmes & Watson.
