Friends Organization

About the Friends

Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the libraries in making information, books, music, and programs available to the public.  Our mission is to strengthen, support and advocate for the Ramsey County Library system in order to enrich  the lives of our library users, promote literacy and education and to foster community.

We sponsor many special programs including the Summer Reading Program for children and teens, free computer classes for all ages, book clubs and author events.  We act as ambassadors for the Ramsey County Library system and help spread the word about our Library  to government and community groups.  When asked, we lead capital campaigns for Library remodeling, renovation and new facilities.

Our volunteers operate used book stores at the Maplewood, Roseville and Shoreview branch libraries and book carts at Mounds View and White Bear Lake to help fund our projects.

Volunteers also promote child literacy through Reading Friends, work at semi- annual used book sales, wear our mascot  costume at special events, serve on committees to plan programs, raise funds, conduct a 5K walk-run, help with Kindergarten Library Card Day, annual luncheon, recruit members, prepare mailings, and more.  Since 1979, hundreds of Friends members, volunteers, and donors have provided more than $3 million in funding, materials, and enhancements to Ramsey County Library.

Planned Giving:  Leave a Legacy of Literacy

Most of us want to be remembered as someone who made a difference, both in life and after we are gone.  We hope to leave a legacy for the lives that follow ours.  One way to leave a legacy is through planned giving.  You can leave money to your family and to the charitable organization of your choice.  It's easy to do.  A simple directive in your will can bring welcome support to an organization that will make a difference in many lives.

How to Get Started:

  • Make sure you have an up-to-date will that reflects your charitable objectives.  Without a will, you surrender control of your property and assets to the courts.
  • Think beyond cash.  You can leave stocks, real estate, insurance policies, and personal property to charities.
  • Make your favorite charity a beneficiary of your life insurance, pension plan or IRA.
  • By leaving a charitable gift in your will or estate, you can foster and continue the values important to you and your family. And, you are helping to serve your community by sustaining the quality of life that makes Minnesota an appealing place to live, work and raise families.  Your gift through a will or estate is a lasting tribute.

Examples of Planned Gifts/Sample Bequests

  • Residual estate (after other bequests or designations are named)

"I give to the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, located at 4570 N. Victoria St., Shoreview, MN 55126 (EIN:41-1597085), the rest and residue of my estate to be used by the organization for its general tax-exempt purpose, without restriction."

  • Portion of estate

"I give to the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, located at 4570 N. Victoria St., Shoreview, MN 55126 (EIN:41-1597085),  ____% of my estate to be used by the organization for its general tax-exempt purpose, without restriction."

  • Specific Amount

"I give to the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, located at 4570 N. Victoria St., Shoreview, MN 55126 (EIN:41-1597085), the sum of $______ to be used by the organization for its general tax-exempt purpose, without restriction."

  • Specific Property

"I give to the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, located at 4570 N. Victoria St., Shoreview, MN 55126 (EIN:41-1597085), all of my right title and interest in the following described estate (insert legal description of property, not just the address) to be used by the organization for its general tax-exempt purpose, without restriction."

  • IRA Beneficiary

"One hundred percent (100%) of my IRA account at (Name of custodian) account no. ___________, shall be distributed to the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, located at 4570 N. Victoria St., Shoreview, MN 55126 (EIN 41-1597085)."

  • Bank Accounts or Life Insurance Designation
